Evaluation Activity 2 Notes

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

  • Teenagers
  • Males
  • Gangsters - gangs, guns, chase, hostage.
  • Good boy - associated with romance
Teenagers
In our opening sequence we decided to use teenagers because our target audience consists of teenagers and so therefore they can relate. Teenagers are seen as "cool" and so this fits in with the story and makes it more dramatic. The clothing was easy to sort out as it is "normal" clothing for the cast.

Males
We decided to use only males in our opening sequence as this is the first thing which the audience sees and therefore we wanted it to look quite intense. Males are seen as more dominant and intimidating and due to the genre of the film being action and crime, it would make more sense not to introduce any females as of yet.

Gangsters
In our opening sequence we decided to portray raqeebul as a gangster because as the first few minutes of the film set the scene, we wanted it to look intimidating so the audience are kept interested. Having a gangster in the film keeps it mysterious and adds a hint of danger which draws the audience in.
We added in a gun as a prop for the gangster to create a more realistic scene as guns symbolize death, danger and fear so we portrayed this successfully. The scene where I was kept hostage let's the character of the gangster be shown well as this is a particular action you would expect from a gangster. The chase between me and Zeeshan also shows this.

Good Boy
We needed a huge contrast from the gangsters which is how we came up with my character. I am shown as someone who would never be involved in a situation like this where my life hangs in a balance. My character is also associated with romance later on in the film, which led him to this dangerous position. By including romance, this portrays a completely different angle to the film as all previous scenes have been negative.
